Gray Wings is not simply the story of my childhood. It is Book One in a trilogy about becoming.
The beginning. The years when our wings are still gray and life is quietly shaping who we will become.
I want every woman who reads Gray Wings to begin seeing her own story through new eyes—not as a collection of wounds, disappointments, or detours, but as the quiet, faithful work of God revealing who He created her to be.

God was never asking me to become someone else.
He was quietly revealing who He created me to be all along.
— Pippa Cerna

Welcome.
If you're here, chances are you've experienced seasons of your own when life felt uncertain, when pieces of your story seemed confusing, painful, or unfinished. I hope that as you read mine, you'll begin to see yours with fresh eyes.
Throughout my childhood, I was known by many names. I was born Maria Guadalupe, lovingly called Lupita, then Pipita, and eventually Pippa by those closest to me. Today, I write under the name Pippa Cerna, not to hide who I am, but to honor the little girl whose voice first learned to dream.
This book is written from memory, prayer, and reflection. While every event is true to my experience, some names, identifying details, locations, and timelines have been changed to protect the privacy of others. Some conversations have also been recreated from memory rather than recorded word for word.
You'll notice that Spanish appears throughout these pages. It is the language of my family, my childhood, and my heart. Whenever possible, I have translated these words so that every reader can journey alongside me while preserving the beauty of the cultures that shaped me.
Gray Wings is not simply the story of my childhood.
It is the first book in a trilogy about becoming.
More importantly, it is an invitation.
At the end of every chapter, you'll find four companions:
A Reflection, a Lesson, a Flamingo Closing, and a Quiet Question.
These are not there to explain my life.
They are there to invite you to reconsider your own.
My hope is that somewhere within these pages, you will recognize that God has been quietly writing your story too—even in the chapters that once felt ordinary, painful, or unfinished.
Welcome to my beginning.
I hope it helps you see yours.
With pink brushstrokes,
Pippa
